Making a Difference Beyond School

This Autumn, Lady Barn pupils, families and staff have come together to support a wide range of local charities and community groups, showing just how powerful collective kindness can be.

Thanks to the generosity of families, the school’s Harvest Festival collection resulted in a record donation of food and essential items to Urban Outreach Bolton, helping support families facing hardship across the region. In the run-up to Christmas, the Reverse Advent Calendar initiative also saw families donate food, toiletries and festive treats for local foodbanks and shelters.

Our pupils have continued to build meaningful connections within the local community through regular visits to Abney Court Care Home. From planting flowers with residents to making decorations and sharing conversations, these intergenerational visits have been a highlight of the term and a reminder of the joy that comes from spending time together.

In December, pupils also visited Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to sing for patients and staff, while families donated gifts to ensure children spending Christmas in hospital felt remembered and supported.

Friends of Lady Barn plays an important role in enabling many of these initiatives, whether through fundraising, volunteering or simply bringing our community together. Every contribution helps create opportunities for pupils to look beyond themselves, develop empathy and understand the impact they can have in the wider world.
